The History of Texas Holdem Online Poker
Poker experts agree that texas hold em online poker is the most popular poker game there is. It has its roots in the casino version of the game which may have first been played in a small Texas town in the early 1900’s. Legend says from there, the game migrated to Dallas, Texas in 1925. Then the game moved on to Las Vegas in the 1970’s and spread throughout the casinos after that.
The wildly popular Word Series of Poker, played every year since 1970 at the Horseshoe casino in Las Vegas, contributed a great deal to the migration of the game from Las Vegas to other parts of the world. But no matter when the game was played for the first time, it didn’t really begin its meteoric climb to usurp all other types of poker games, including the once untouchable 7 card stud, until the early 2000’s. That’s when hold em tournaments started being televised and people saw how much money there was waiting to be won.
Hold em poker spread like wildfire after that, but its popularity was nothing compared to what it became once texas hold em online poker became available. Suddenly, instead of having to find some friends to pull together for a game, or driving to the nearest casino or poker room, hold em poker could be played any time day or night. And the people responded with great enthusiasm making texas hold em online poker the hands-down most popular online sports game today.
The popularity of this game has created a number of spinoffs. The most commonly played ones include:
· Royal Hold ‘Em. This is a game that is played like regular hold em poker except the deck consists of only Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, and Tens. Because there are only 20 cards in the deck, the maximum number of players cannot exceed 6.
· Omaha, or Omaha Hold Em, is similar to regular holdem except the players have 4 hold cards and 5 community cards. The best hand must consist of exactly two hold cards and exactly three community cards.
But regardless of how many derivative games are made up, there is still only one game that works the crowds into a fever of excitement and keeps people on their computers connected to online poker rooms. And that’s texas hold em online poker.
