Tips for Managing your Sit and Go Bankroll

1

Your chips can dwindle down pretty quickly when you’re playing sit and go poker. That’s because, as players leave the table, the blinds come around faster. Also, many players make the mistake of not knowing how to adjust their betting as the table moves from full to shorthanded. But regardless of how you play, there are some common tips that will help you manage your sit and go bankroll.

Here are the three goals you should have in mind for managing your sit and go bankroll:

1.         Protecting your stack from disappearing.

2.         Keeping the chips you win after you win them.

3.         Building your stack even higher as the game progresses.

In short, your ultimate money management goal is to leave the game with more chips than what you had when you arrived. Here’s how to do that:

·        Keep on playing when you’re on a winning streak until the streak ends. Remember that you want to keep the chips you win each hand, so don’t be too loose deciding when that streak is really over. If you loose three sit and go tournaments in a row, shut down. It’s not your day to be playing.

·        Don’t play above your skill level when real money is at stake. If you want to see what it’s like to play above your head, find out at a free online poker room.

·        Never play with scared money. Build your initial sit and go bankroll from spare money, not money you need to pay your bills. If you can’t afford to play on any particular day, but you’ve got the poker itch – play at a free online poker room.

·        Adjust your action to the size of your stack of poker chips. If your stack is smaller than when you started, move your buy-in level down. If your stack is bigger, you can kick it up a notch. When you’re first starting out playing sit and go poker, stick with small buy-in games where you can afford to get whipped and consider the cost of losing to be “tuition.”

·        Think of your bankroll as your “budget.” You can’t afford to spend more money that you have, so you have to manage your money carefully. Learn how to do that and you’ll be proud of the size of your sit and go bankroll.
