Here’s Your Guide to Poker Holdem Rules

Texas hold em poker is probably the most popular card game in the world. The game is easy to learn, but can be tough to master. Here’s a look at the poker hold em rules.

·        The dealer shuffles a standard deck. In casinos and online, players do not deal; a dedicated dealer is provided. However, a “dealer’s button” is rotated around each player position to indicate who the next dealer would be if the players did deal. You’ll see why in a moment.

·        Poker hold em rules require the two players to the left of the dealer to each put a pre-determined amount of money into the pot. This is called "posting the blinds." The first player puts in one half of the table’s minimum bet. The second player deposits the full minimum bet. This is called the “small” and “big blind”. Now you see why the dealer button rotates.

·        Each player receives two cards face down. These are the "hole cards."

·        A round of betting begins starting with the player to the left of the big blind player.  Poker hold em rules allow each player to bet, call, raise, or fold during the game.

·        The dealer discards (“burns”) the top card on the deck and flips the next three cards onto the table. These are called the "flop". They’re community cards that all players use when making their hand.

·        Another round of betting occurs starting with the player to the left of the dealer.

·        Another card is burned and the dealer flips one card into the middle of the table. This is called “Fourth Street” or the “Turn.”

·        Another round of betting begins with the player to the left of the dealer.

·        Another card is burned before the dealer flips the 5th community card. This is called “Fifth Street” or the “River.”

·        There are now 5 community cards out and each player has their 2 hole cards. The final round of betting begins with the player to the left of the dealer or button.

·        Either the player who made the initial bet, or the player who last raised, shows their best hand. All other players then show theirs. This is called the “Showdown.” High hand wins the pot.

And that’s all you need to know about poker hold em rules!
